About Work

Can the surface be anything more than the point at which things become visible or invisible? Animating stories are referring to processes that take place in this liminal zone where stillness becomes movement, moment becomes narrative, artefact becomes memory and subject appears in ambiguous situation. Here the liminality is perceived as permanent and uncertain presence. Rather than concealing the personal aspects of experience, the fold recreates them as marginalised elements. The ‘limen’ is ‘the threshold between the sensate and the subliminal, the limit below which a certain sensation ceases to be perceptible. What if the fold were not only an obstacle, a limitation on accessing experience, but also a potential, a disturbance of the surface?
