Laura Pagliai

Laura Pagliai

After technical studies, Pagliai enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna and later at the School of Art “Ramenghi” of Bagnacavallo (Ra). In 2012 she attended a painting course at the Art Students League of New York. Pagliai currently lives and works as a teacher in a middle school in Ravenna. Curiosity is the common thread and the artistic motivation that leads her towards research, towards new experiences on expressive language and on the use of different materials and techniques.

About Work

Pagliai analyse human existence from unusual points of view, at first sight curious and original, but at the same time emotionally intense. She focus on the sculpture of characters immobilised in an atmosphere of melancholy meditation and attachment to the matter, which they observe in silence, live the time of waiting and feed reflections of uncertainty and anxiety. The figures fit with delicate balance in cubic-shaped structures, small houses that are a reference or starting point to question the world, to dream, in the vain search for answers to the banality of everyday life. The poetic element of the balloon is linked to the concept of lightness of the soul, of the search for happiness, of the realisation of dreams that in the cylindrical installation are still stored in a drawer, waiting to be let out and realised.
