Isma Gul Hasan is an illustrator based in Lahore, Pakistan. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design from Beaconhouse National University in 2017. Since then Hasan has focused on different areas in the realm of Design, such as visual storytelling and design for social change, while simultaneously producing personal illustration work. Her projects over the past two years include animations and illustrations for Shehri Pakistan on issues such as the right to clean air, women’s right to vote, and the right to education, as well as album artwork for the Lahore based musical act, Gentle Robot. Hasan was also the creative director of the dystopian animated short film Shehr-e-Tabassum, which was released earlier this year. Her personal work borrows from Bergsonian concepts of time and memory with a focus on themes like anxiety, trauma, grief and loss. Expanding on similar themes, her most recent work explores agency and control through the subterranean landscapes of the female mind. Hasan is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Illustration at University of the Arts London.

About Work

Hasan explores the silence surrounding us during this pandemic. It highlights moments of reflection, as well as heightened observation during this period. In isolating ourselves in our home we yearn for moments of connection and congruence, and thus start viewing the world in a new light, tinged with longing and silence.
